When friends Bonnie Landy and Holly Redding attended the Craft Brewers Conference in North Carolina, they noticed they were apart of just a handful of women in the audience of about 100. Some thought they were waiting for their husbands rather than attending the event for their own entrepreneurial plans.

The two are now joining the craft beer scene as co-owners of a microbrewery called Winchester Brew Works in Old Town Winchester, scheduled to open in November. Construction is currently underway with a lodge-style interior design inspired by national park signage. They hope to complete the decorative touches with a fundraising campaign next month.

The six beers on tap will include an IPA, a brown ale with chipotle peppers and an American-style cream ale lager.

Brew Works has been in the making for about two years, though both owners have been homebrewing with their husbands for the last decade. As two women in the male-dominated craft beer industry, Landy and Redding feel like they have more to prove. / Winchester Brew Works, 320 N. Cameron St., Winchester
